An Evening of Botanical Drawing and Cocktails


Join us for a night of drawing in the Benjamin Rush Medicinal Plant Garden! The instructors will give a short lecture on the folklore and historical uses of medicinal plants in our collection and techniques of scientific botanical drawing, then we will head out into the garden to create our drawings! Afterwards you'll try your hand at creating a delicious cocktail using herbs found in our garden.

6:00-6:30pm – Lecture
6:30pm-8:00pm – Drawing
8:00-9:00pm – Reception 

Please note this event is 21+ only. You may be photographed during this event for use by The College of Physicians of Philadelphia/Mütter Museum.

Pre-registration is required as there are a limited number of seats available.
The main Mütter Museum will not be open during this event.

NOTE: Please bring your own supplies.

Recommended Materials:

- Sketchbook (no larger than 11"x14”)

- Graphite sticks 4b, 6b, 8 or 9b

- Graphite Pencils 2b, 4b, 6b, 8b, and ebony

- Pencil Sharpener – Must come with enclosed container for shavings!

- Optional: Colored pencils/ chalk pastels

About the Instructor:

Carol Woodin has spent thirty years investigating color while painting plants in watercolor on vellum. Her work has been exhibited and collected around the world; recent venues include the Shirley Sherwood Gallery, Kew, UK, Museo della Grafica, Pisa, Italy, Museum de Buitenplaats, Eelde, Netherlands, and Newhouse Galleries in New York. Among the awards she’s received are an RHS Gold Medal, the ASBA Diane Bouchier Founder’s Award, and the Orchid Digest Medal of Honor. She is ASBA’s Director of Exhibitions.
