Do stories have the power to heal?
Mr. Vitez believes stories have the power to heal in many ways and will describe his efforts to encourage a culture of storytelling at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine and at Temple University Hospital. Dr. Reifler will discuss ways in which we are integrating reflective writing into the routine education of students at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine.
About the Speakers
Michael Vitez is a Pulitzer Prize-winning career journalist who left the Philadelphia Inquirer after 30 years to become Director of Narrative Medicine at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University in 2016.
Douglas Reifler, MD, is Professor of Medicine and Associate Dean for Student Affairs at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine. He has a long-standing interest in using stories, especially reflective writing, to promote clinical narrative skills and positive acculturation to the profession.
