Scientists Decode Early Strain of Cholera found in Mütter Specimen

Our wet specimens were used to crack a genetic code of cholera! This remarkable genetic decoding was made possible by specimens of victims of the 1849 Philadelphia cholera outbreak. Check out coverage of our fascinating discovery from the New York Times, Philadelphia Inquirer, and MedPage Today!

The Mütter Museum helps the public appreciate the mysteries and beauty of the human body while understanding the history of diagnosis and treatment of disease.
