The Largest Collection of… What?

Last week two scientists unveiled an amazing finding at a conference dedicated to “analytical sciences.” What did they work on and what did they discover?

The Mütter collection is not the only collection to live here at The College of Physicians of Philadelphia. The other is a collection of anatomical and medical books over seven floors: The Historical Medical Library.

And these two scientists confirmed that the Library is home to the biggest collection of confirmed anthropodermic books. What does that mean exactly? They are books bound in human skin! Thanks to some amazing analysis, we even know that three of the books were bound using the same woman…

Read the new blog from The Historical Medical Library to learn more about this incredible story.

The Mütter Museum helps the public appreciate the mysteries and beauty of the human body while understanding the history of diagnosis and treatment of disease.
