College Fellows Event


Join us as we celebrate the holiday season with , College Fellows, and special guest Stephen Fried.
We’ll kick off the evening at 6 p.m. in the Fellowship Hub with a lovely holiday-themed reception with food, drinks, and music. At 7 p.m., we will host Stephen Fried in partnership with Head House Books for an author talk about his book, , followed by a Q&A and book signing.
Benjamin Rush, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, a Philadelphia doctor and civic leader, was one of the founders of The College of Physicians of Philadelphia in 1787. We named the Benjamin Rush Medicinal Plant Garden in his honor.

About Stephen Fried
Stephen Fried is an award-winning journalist and bestselling author who teaches at Columbia University and the University of Pennsylvania. His eight nonfiction books include the healthcare narratives Thing of Beauty: The Tragedy of Supermodel Gia (1993), Bitter Pills: Inside the Hazardous World of Legal Drugs (1998) and RUSH: Revolution, Madness and the Visionary Doctor Who Became a Founding Father (2018), as well as the mental health and addiction books co-authored with former Congressman Patrick J. Kennedy, A Common Struggle (2015) and Profiles in Mental Health Courage (2024). A two-time winner of the National Magazine Award, Fried has written for Vanity Fair, GQ, Glamour, and Philadelphia Magazine, where he also served as editor-in-chief. He is currently the director of the Columbia Narrative Medicine Journalism Workshop. Fried lives in Philadelphia with his wife, author Diane Ayres.
