Meet & Geek: The Art of the Book

Senior Director of Collections & Research Erin McLeary will share unique handwritten, hand-drawn, or hand-created books from our Museum and Library collections.

 

These include receipt books (collections of medicinal remedies), scrapbooks about medical news, student notes taken at Thomas Dent Mütter’s lectures, and nineteenth-century student drawings made during dissection instruction. This Meet & Geek invites audiences to think about how health, sickness, and the body manifest in everyday writing. 

 

McLeary will lead participants in crafting their own bound booklet, including images from the materials presented in her talk.
