Join us for a special installment of our Mütter Meet & Geek series featuring our new special exhibition, Creative Processing: Art in Therapy! This Meet & Geek with board-certified clinical art therapist Dr. Kathryn Snyder, whose work is highlighted in the exhibition, will include a lecture and a hands-on workshop.

What Participants Can Expect:

Participants can expect a thoughtfully paced experience that weaves together a brief, engaging introduction to the history of art therapy in museums with a substantial guided artmaking period. The session begins by situating museums, especially spaces like the Mütter Museum, as evolving from sites of collection and classification into places that can hold reflection, care, and human experience. To bridge this experience with the artmaking, we will engage in a brief, slow looking activity.

Then, we will invite participants into a supportive, low-pressure creative process inspired by retablos, using accessible materials to create a small artwork that honors themes such as memory, resilience, love, or loss.

No prior art experience is needed. The workshop emphasizes personal meaning-making, choice, and quiet reflection, with optional opportunities to share and witness one another’s work in a respectful, community-centered environment. Participants will leave with their retablo, a list of brief resources, and reflection prompts for continued inquiry.

In this two-hour workshop, we will:
  • Explore some stories of art therapy in museums.

  • Learn about slow looking for our own personal development.

  • Make a retablo art piece that reflects love, loss, and memory
