About the Film

The Lodger (1927), one of Alfred Hitchcock's earliest films, bears the marks of what would become his acclaimed oeuvre. Technically innovative and framed in an atmosphere of suspense, it tells the story of a serial killer known as "The Avenger," who is terrorizing London, targeting blonde women. A mysterious stranger appears and rents a room at a lodging house, where he becomes close with the landlady's beautiful golden-haired daughter. His elusive behavior elicits suspicion—could he be the killer?
