Please join the Section on Public Health and Preventive Medicine as we host Professor David S Cohen, Professor of Law at Thomas Kline School of Law at Drexel University, as he discusses the intersection of constitutional law and gender.

About the Topic:

With the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade, Professor David S. Cohen will discuss the past, present, and future of abortion rights in the United States. Drawing on his coauthored book, Obstacle Course: The Everyday Struggle to Get an Abortion in America (California 2020) (with Carole Joffe), Professor Cohen will explain how even under Roe, many states severely restricted access to abortion in ways completely contrary to public health evidence. However, abortion was still legal in every state, even if difficult to access. But with new laws out of Texas and Oklahoma and Dobbs vs. Jackson, abortion rights have not been this threatened in half a century. The Court's decision impacts patients, providers, and public health across the country.
