Unhoused: Personal Stories and Public Health Early Access
College Fellows and Mütter Members are invited to attend a special early access preview of our new exhibition, Unhoused: Personal Stories and Public Health. This new exhibition confronts the crisis of housing insecurity in America through the lens of public health and centers the voices of those experiencing homelessness in sharing their stories.
Presented in the Thomson Gallery, Unhoused: Personal Stories and Public Health is anchored by powerful yet intimate black and white portraiture from Toronto-based photographer as well as a monumental artwork from Dallas-based artist , whose installation is composed of hundreds of cardboard signs the artist has purchased over the past thirty years from unhoused and unsheltered people in cities around the nation.
Be the first to preview the exhibition, meet the artists, and enjoy light refreshments!
About the Exhibition:
This exhibition explores the difficult truth that simply being without a home is a dangerous health condition and features the content expertise of Dr. René Najera, Chair for Public Health, College of Physicians of Philadelphia, and Dr. Rosie Frasso, a Fellow of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia and a public health leader and educator based at Thomas Jefferson University whose students also contributed to the project.
The Museum will partner with local organizations dedicated to addressing homelessness in Philadelphia and beyond — within the exhibition, through public programming, and in community outreach efforts.
“Researchers can shed light on an issue, measure it, weigh it — while artists can bring an issue into the light, setting the stage for broader conversation,” said Dr. Rosie Frasso. “When researchers and artists work together, they expand their individual capacities to bring about change.”
This event is for Fellows of The College of Physicians of Philadelphia and Mütter members, and their guests only.
